Delta State flood victims receive relief support

  The Niger Delta Development Commission has presented relief materials and palliatives to the various communities in Delta State “that were greatly impacted by the 2022 flood disaster.” The presentation was made to community leaderships, including women groups and youth groups drawn from the 25 local government areas of Delta State, on Friday at the Sapele Athletic Club in Sapele, by the Delta State representative on the board of the NDDC, Monday Igbuya, on behalf of the Chairman of the Board of the interventionist agency, Chiedu Ebie. Truckloads of items distributed at the event comprised bags of rice, bags of beans, mattresses, vegetable oil, noodles, toiletries, tomato paste, boats, cassava milling machines, sewing and grinding machines as well as cooking salt, among others. Also speaking at the event, Mr. Onoriode Ogodo, of the Sapele-Okpe community, while thanking the NDDC, assured that “the items will go far in supporting those who lost homes and means of livelihoods during the

  The Warri community South Africa executives and Board of Trustee members will be having a joint meeting on Sunday 3rd M arch  2024. In a statement issued by the Public relations officer Mr Onoriode Lucky Efetoboh , the meeting was scheduled to discuss among other things the community's 2024  calendar   .  This will be the first joint meeting in the year 2024. As the BOT Secretary Mr Belvy Udi is admonishing all executives and BOT members to be in attendance. The venue of the meeting has been forwarded to the interested parties.

$268,000 fraud: EFCC arrests ‘Yahoo Boy’ at his luxury hotel in Oghara Delta State

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested Precious Ojo, aka Obago, a suspected internet fraudster in Oghara, Delta State. The 26-year-old was arrested following a petition received from a United States of America citizen, on his fraudulent activities. The petitioner had alleged that the suspect impersonated one Raymond Bush who works in the US Treasury to defraud her of $268,000.00. He confessed to building the luxury hotel with his alleged proceeds of crime. Other items recovered from him include a Mercedes-Benz car with personalized plate numbers and mobile phones. The suspect will be arraigned in court soon.

Shell wins Niger Delta oil spill case in UK

  The United Kingdom Supreme Court has ruled in favour of leading British multinational oil and gas company, Shell on Wednesday that it was too late for Nigerian claimants to sue its two subsidiaries over a 2011 offshore oil spill. On December 20, 2011, there were allegations that an estimated 40,000 barrels of crude oil leaked when a tanker was loaded at Shell’s Bonga oilfield, 120km off the coast of Nigeria’s Niger Delta. Shell disputed the allegations and said the Bonga spill was dispersed offshore and did not have adverse effects on the shoreline, according to Reuters. The case was one of a series of legal tussles that Shell has been battling with in London courts against Nigerians who live in the oil-rich Niger Delta, a region faced with pollution, conflict and corruption connected to the oil and gas industry. A group of 27,800 individuals and 457 communities have made several attempts to drag Shell to court, arguing that the resulting oil slick polluted their lands and waterways,

Niger Delta youth leaders canvass support for Akpabio’s senate presidency

  A coalition of youth leaders from the Niger Delta region under the auspices of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Association (NDYLA) has unanimously endorsed a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and a former Minister of the Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio as best suited for the position of the Senate President in the 10th Assembly. At a press conference held in Warri on Monday, the National President, Comrade Lucky Emononefe, and Festus Dumbari, the National Secretary alongside over 100 youth leaders from the region stated that it will be fair for other senators from other zones to cast their votes for Akpabio. The group stated that other zones have held the position in the past and that the track record of Senator Akpabio stands him out as one of the best for the lofty position. Police arrest 94 commercial-sex workers in Delta

  The police have arrested 94 commercial sex workers and 59 male suspects for various crimes ranging from kidnapping,  armed robberies and other sundry crimes in Ughelli north local government areas and environs in Delta state. The Delta state Police spokesman , DSP Bright Edafe who disclosed this to newsmen in Warri, said  locally made guns, three suspected stolen vehicles  and hard  drugs were among items recovered from the arrested suspects, adding that the some of them have  been charged to court and  the others moved to the command’s headquarters in Asaba.   The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Delta state, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has expressed dismay about electioneering in Nigeria, saying the process is deteriorating on yearly basis. Ogboru, in an exclusive interview with Saturday Vanguard, stated that one of his children had once told him not to contest election until he has N10 billion. Delta State: Schools to resume April 25th

The Delta State Government has announced that all schools in the state will resume for the third term 2022/ 2023 academic session on April 25. The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, made the announcement in a statement she issued, on Friday in Asaba. She said that teaching and learning activities would commence on Tuesday, and resumption test would be conducted on Thursday in all the various schools across the state. She said that the state was operating a uniformed timetable for all public and private schools. “School heads and teachers should ensure that they complied with the directive, as the Ministry would lead officials to monitor the level of compliance,” She said. She urged Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) in the 25 Local Government Areas in the state, to participate actively in monitoring the resumption of schools. “The CIEs should also monitor teachers’ commitment to their official duties in their various Local Government Areas,” she said.
