EDO STATE: Fire guts UNIBEN female hostel


 


Fire has razed block A of the female Postgraduate Hostel containing 20 rooms in Ekehuan Campus of the University of Benin(UNIBEN) Benin, Edo State.No life was lost.

Eyewitnesses said the inferno started in one of the rooms from an electric spark and spread to the other rooms quickly because of plywood used as demarcation.

Students in the postgraduate hostel said the electricity spark has always been a cause for concern, adding that they have called the attention of the hostel porters to several electrical faults.

A student, Okoh Cynthia, said three fire servicemen came to put out the fire as it was already escalating to the ground floor of the building.

Another student and an occupant in Block A, Stella Osagie said she was depressed as she lost her Iphone XR worth over N200,000 and her laptop worth N250,000.

Martha Henry, also an occupant at the PG Block A, said her money, school credentials and project works were burnt to ashes.

1.1 Billion Naira Fraud: Abdullahi Dikko’s lawyer get seven years in Jail

  Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Umar Hussaini, a private lawyer to the late Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Dikko, to seven years imprisonment with an option of fine.   In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, March 29, the court found Hussaini guilty of the two-count charge preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC). In the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/74/2020 and filed by the ICPC on behalf of the Federal Government, Hussaini, who was the sole defendant, was charged with laundering the NCS funds to the tune of N1.1 billion. After Justice Ojukwu convicted Hussaini, two witnesses, one of whom was a legal practitioner, Mr Amobi Nzelu, testified about Hussaini’s good character, while praying the court for a leniency.   They begged the court to give the sentencing with an option of fine. Enugu: 23 Fraudsters in EFCC net

  Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 23 suspected internet fraudsters in Enugu state.   EFCC spokesperson,  Mr Wilson Uwujaren said the suspects were arrested around Monark, Emene and Golf Course axis of Enugu, following actionable intelligence.   Uwajuren i dentified the suspects as Ugwuanyi Innocent Kasiemobi, Emmanuel Chukwu Agwu,  Onyeama Christian Arinze, Hycienth Nnabuike Emmanuel,  Chibueze Augustine Oluebube, Ogaraku Chidiebube Obinna, Chibueze Stanley Onyedikachi, Austus Jeffrey Chiemerem,  Ikechi David Faithful and Okafor Collins Chika.   Others are Chimaobi Chukwu Joshua, Onuoha Miracle Oluebubu, Udo Ugochukwu Stanley, Igbo Christian Ikenna, Nweke Kingsley David, Obinna Stanley Obumneme, Okocha Elisha Ewah, Nweke Cosmas Chidera, Justice Anyaegbunam Mba, David Kingsley Nweke, Eze Henry Chiwetalu, Nweke Edwin Chidubem and Ikechi David.   Items recovered include six exotic cars: One Mercedez Benz E350, one Lexus ES350, one Mercedes B
