PDP quashes suspension of Anyim, Fayose, Ortom, Shema, others

Ayu had led the party into suspending former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, former Governors Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina) and two others over alleged anti-party activities. He had also led the NWC into referring Governor Samuel Ortom to the party’s disciplinary committee for the same offence. Damagun, who was appointed acting National Chairman of the PDP on Tuesday, held his first full-fledged meeting yesterday where the decision to reverse these disciplinary measures was taken. Elon Musk becomes the most followed person on Twitter

  Twitter CEO, Elon Musk is now the most-followed person on the platform.    Musk surpassed Barack Obama as the most followed Twitter user – with 133.08 million followers compared to Obama's 133.04 million this week. It follows the Twitter CEO ordering company engineers to create a special system that boosts his tweets following the Super Bowl on February 12.   According to insiders, Musk ordered a revamp when his tweet about the Super Bowl didn't get as many impressions as a similar tweet from President Joe Biden.   The billionaire deleted his 'flopped' tweet and threatened to fire his engineering team if they did not fix the engagement issue. Musk's follower count has been rising since and at the time of writing, he has 133,089,608 Twitter followers compared to Obama's 133,042,468. Interestingly, this means Obama's follower count has declined in a matter of hours, while Musk's is still increasing, stats published earlier by The Verge reported.

Ghana Tupac is reported Dead

  Ghanaian Tik Tok sensation, Ahuofe Abrantie, popularly known as Tupac, has reportedly died.   According to Occupygh,  Ahoufe, who had amassed over 3 million followers on TikTok and half a million followers on Instagram, passed at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Thursday, March 30. GHBase reports that he died after battling an undisclosed sickness for some time. Robbers bags 7 years jail time for Robbing Patience Jonathan

  A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has sentenced one Praise Gelson and Usman Garba to seven years imprisonment for breaking into the home of the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, to steal valuables worth millions of naira.   This was stated in a decision delivered by Justice Adolphus Enebeli, who also convicted and sentenced one Tamunoala Alatoru to six months imprisonment for negligence to her duties.   The defendants were arraigned sometime in November 2022, before the court on three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted murder of the former President’s wife.   The trial judge, Justice Ebebeli, in his judgment, found Gelson and Garba, who were the first and third defendants, guilty of armed robbery and attempted murder, noting that the prosecution counsel proved his case beyond a reasonable doubt.   Ebebeli also ruled that the prosecution proved his case against Alatoru who was the second defendant, especially on negligence in her d

  DELTA State Governor elect, Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, have been presented Certificate of Return, following their victory at the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state. The Certificate of Return was presented by the National Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in charge of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa, Mrs Roda Gumus. The ceremony was held at the INEC headquarters, Asaba, Delta State. The 29 members-elect of the State House of Assembly were also presented certificates of return.

Police HQ may prosecute ‘Portable’ over misconduct

  Police Force Headquarters yesterday condemned the action of a singer, one Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’. The police said ‘Portable’ was seen in a viral video “exhibiting irrational behaviour and hurling insults at police officers carrying out their legal duty”. Force Headquarters said his action is criminal and punishable. Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said: “The action of the singer in the video was unruly and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence against the officers who were detailed to execute a warrant of arrest on him for series of allegations of criminal acts leveled against Mr Portable. “The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offence.”

Senate moves to recover N6tr ground rent from property owners

The Senate has set up an ad hoc committee to probe and recover over N6 trillion accruals from non-payment of ground rent from property owners across the country. The Senate resolution followed its consideration of a motion, titled: “Need to recover over N6 trillion ground rent due to the Federal Government that is laying fallow in the hands of a few individuals in Nigeria,” sponsored by Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf (APC Taraba Central). The senator said he brought the motion under Orders 41 and 51 of the Senate Standing Rules. He said the Land Use Act has vested ownership rights to the Federal Government over its land in states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Yusuf said the rights include the powers to control and regulate town planning and physical development in relation to such lands and, by extension, prescribing and collection of any tax, fees or rates.   The Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yabagi Sani, has asked the Department of State Service (DSS) to name and apprehend those it said are behind plans to install an interim government in the country. The DSS had in a statement earlier on Wednesday said it discovered a plot by “misguided” political actors to set aside the constitution and install an interim government in the country. However, in a swift reaction on Wednesday, Sani said it is not enough for the DSS to announce a plot for interim government, charging them to go further and name the plotters as well as take action against them. “To say the least, it is an embarrassment because I believe that the DSS, the agency that is in charge of gathering intelligence and then passing intelligence to other agencies, are supposed to take action. 1.1 Billion Naira Fraud: Abdullahi Dikko’s lawyer get seven years in Jail

  Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Umar Hussaini, a private lawyer to the late Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Dikko, to seven years imprisonment with an option of fine.   In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, March 29, the court found Hussaini guilty of the two-count charge preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC). In the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/74/2020 and filed by the ICPC on behalf of the Federal Government, Hussaini, who was the sole defendant, was charged with laundering the NCS funds to the tune of N1.1 billion. After Justice Ojukwu convicted Hussaini, two witnesses, one of whom was a legal practitioner, Mr Amobi Nzelu, testified about Hussaini’s good character, while praying the court for a leniency.   They begged the court to give the sentencing with an option of fine. 1 Billion naira fraud : Ex VC and Bursar Arrested

  Professor Ibrahim Garba and Ibrahim Shehu Usman, former Vice Chancellor and Bursar respectively of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria were yesterday , March 29, 2023, arraigned before Justice R.M Aikawa of the Federal High Court sitting Kaduna, Kaduna State, on a nine-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of over N1billion by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.   A statement released by the spokesperson of the command, Wilson Uwujaren, says the accused are alleged to have diverted the monies from different accounts of the institution meant for the renovation of the popular Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria. Former football managers  Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.   The legendary duo won 16 Premier League titles between them while developing a fierce rivalry over the years when managing their respective clubs, Manchester United and Arsenal.
