Police arrest singer Portable

The police in Ogun State yesterday arrested Nigerian music artiste, Habeeb Okikiola a.k.a. Portable following the expiration of the deadline given him to submit himself.

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed yesterday that Portable had been arrested and held at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi disclosed that Portable was arrested after he turned down five invitations from the police.

The Zazu singer had resisted arrest on Wednesday when police officers were at his bar to arrest him.

The police had accused Portable of exhibiting irrational behavior and hurling insults at officers who were carrying out their legal duty; an action they said is punishable by the laws of Nigeria

Videos of Portable narrating his encounter with some police officers had gone viral on social media platforms.

“The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offence,” Adejobi said in a statement.

“The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty. We need to respect our law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fight crimes and criminality in our society,” the statement added.

Policemen from the Ogun State Police Command had stormed Portable’s bar on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a man but the singer resisted and instead went live on Instagram.

In the video, Portable claimed that an internet fraudster had brought the police to his bar to arrest staff members for no reason.
