NEW RETIREMENT AGE FOR DELTANS
The Delta State Government has approved a new retirement age for teachers in the public service of the state.
According to the new policy, teachers and non-academic staff of state-owned Polytechnics and Colleges of Education will retire upon the attainment of 40 years of service or when they reach 65 years of age.
The announcement was made by Mr Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Information, during a press briefing shortly after the State Executive meeting held in Asaba.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Mr Aniagwu emphasized that many teachers have a wealth of experience and knowledge even at the age of 65, which can be utilized to teach and shape young minds. Therefore, the new policy aims to retain experienced educators and benefit from their expertise in the field.
